A leading drummer on the international jazz scene, Guillaume Nouaux has been performing for many years on major stages and at top festivals across Europe, while touring extensively around the world. With over a hundred albums to his credit, he remains highly active in the recording studio. From a young age, he performed alongside top-level musicians and has collaborated with a wide array of renowned artists, including Chuck Berry, Donald Harrison, Steve Lacy, Harry Allen, Scott Hamilton, Red Holloway, Bob Wilber, Scott Robinson, Evan Christopher, Ken Peplowski, Victor Goines, Leroy Jones, Warren Vaché, Wycliffe Gordon, Dan Barrett, Lucien Barbarin, Nicki Parrott, Howard Alden, Don Vappie, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Didier Lockwood, Jason Marsalis, Dado Moroni, Butch Thompson, and many others.
Deeply involved in a wide range of artistic projects, Guillaume Nouaux has developed a unique style — both personal and firmly rooted in the legacy of the great jazz drummers. A prolific bandleader and accomplished ensemble director, he has had several of his albums awarded the Prix de l’Académie du Jazz (Academy of Jazz Prize) in 2011 and 2020, as well as the Prix du Hot Club de France (Hot Club of France Prize) in 2014, 2019, 2020, and 2023. Praised by the international press, his most recent recordings have received critical acclaim across Europe, the United States, Japan, Russia, and Australia.
A respected educator and the author of several reference works, he regularly shares his passion through masterclasses, workshops, and lectures. His latest book, The Birth of the Drum Set: The Origins of the Drum Set and the First Drummers in New Orleans (2024), received the Jazz Book Prize from the Hot Club de France. As the artistic director and founder of the South Town Jazz Festival in the Landes region of France, he is also actively involved in promoting jazz by supporting and mentoring various cultural initiatives. Highly regarded by his peers and widely praised by the international press, Guillaume Nouaux today stands as one of the leading figures of jazz drumming in Europe.
